Purpose?

Who am I? What is my purpose? Those are questions that most (all?) ask.

Purpose is not your job or vocation. Seeking meaning for our lives is something we do. For those without God and the promise through His plan of salvation, this life is it. Same stuff, different day, day in and day out.

So why was man created? We were created in the likeness of God by God to fellowship with Him. That fellowship is what He desires of us and why the angels wish they could be like us.

There is a Christian riddle, "How much faith does an angle have? ... None. They don't need any. They live in the presence of God." Angels were created before man. Angels were not created in God's likeness. There are different kinds of angelic beings, cherubim, seraphim, and archangels, and each has different characteristics. Satan is referred to as a cherub in Ezekiel 28.

Now why would angels be impressed by man? Would they be impressed with a persons wealth? No. The streets of heaven are made of gold. Are they impressed with our power? Ha. They have the ability to fly, to travel between heaven and earth, to be invisible or appear solid and in human form. So why would angels be impressed with man?

Did you ever think about when God first exhibited His wrath? His glory fills heaven all the time. Angels had never seen God's wrath until Lucifer and his followers forgot they were creations and thought they would exalt themselves to the level of God. God's wrath immediately cast them out. That is the first record we have of God's wrath. There is no forgiveness for the angels that were cast out.

Angels are impressed with man, because God created us in His image and loves us so much that He gives us His grace. What is grace? Grace goes beyond mercy. Mercy is undeserved kindness. Grace is undeserved kindness when we deserve wrath. What is our requirement to receive God's grace? We must accept it. God provides forgiveness for mankind through His grace; through His sacrifice on the cross; through His resurrection.

Our purpose is to fellowship with God; to love God and be loved by God. Solomon had wealth beyond measure and is said to be the wisest man that lived, and he wrote that
everything is futile and folly except what we do in our relationship with God (read the book of Ecclesiastes).
