Dem Advice to Hillary: Divorce Bill

We've all heard by now that Hillary Clinton will run for President in 2008, and perhaps even 2004, despite her statements to the contrary.

And we've all listened to the flood of announcements from all the candidates in the Democratic party who are running for president in 2004.

But what we haven't heard lately is the former philanderer-in-chief himself, Mr. Bill Clinton. He's not stumping for any of the proposed candidates, including his wife. What gives?

Clinton used to be thought of as a candidate-maker; one whose endorsement was worth its weight in election gold.

So where has his formerly ubiquitous campaign voice (or lack thereof, on laryngitic occasion) been?

US News' 'Washington Whispers" reports that while ol' Bubba can still "grab a headline," and command a hefty fee on the speaking circuit, he's not wanted in the election camps in this go-'round.

One senior Democratic strategist told USN, "He's out of vogue."

Out of vogue? Bill Clinton? Say it ain't so!

But wait, there's more.

The movers and shakers in the Democratic party are also worried that the endosement and/or presence of the ex-prez might even bring down Hillary's campaign in 2008.

Another, anonymous Dem strategist even went so far as to recommend the following to Hillary: "Divorce him."

Ouch. We can see the headline now: "Bubba - Dropped Like Fourth Period French."

Why not? Aside from Reagan, who cannot, due to illness - what's wrong with Gerry or George?

If the conventional wisdom is correct, and Hillary dumps Bill and finds someone better, won't we have a former First Lady President who herself has a First Lady?
