You have a pretty good list there! And, I have to say your choices made me think...

I think part of what makes a movie a favorite for me is the ability to watch it repeatedly and still "dig it". Here are some of my favorites..

Two Weeks Notice
Man on Fire
Dazed and Confused
Bringing up Baby
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Crash
Resevoir Dogs
History of Violence

Will have to get back to you -- I have many more...

I also love a lot of the films you two have mentioned, especially these...

American History X
Dazed and Confused
Death To Smoochy (Very underrated comedy! Robin Williams Edward Norton were great.)
The Exorcist
Man On Fire
Reservoir Dogs

***

With my list, I tried to mix films I consider "great" and films which are "great" to watch. For example... The Deer Hunter, Leaving Las Vegas, Schindler's List, The Thin Red Line, and 21 Grams are not "fun" watches, but they're so incredibly well-acted, directed, and written. All five are powerful, unforgettable dramas, in my opinion. On the other hand, movies like The Bourne Siupremacy, Jerry Maguire, Minority Report, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and The Royal Tenenbaums are on there because they're hugely entertaining action or comedy movies that are very well-done.

Gary,

I love a lot of those. The Godfather, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, and Mystic River were all great. I've always thought Bullitt was overrated - cool car action, though. The only one on your list I hate is Road To Perdition, which I thought was a major disappointment and nowhere near as good as the director's prior movie (American Beauty). Jude Law was excellent in it, though. Then again, he never gives a bad performance.

Am I the only person who wasn't blown away by Forrest Gump? I can't believe it won Best Picture over Pulp Fiction, Quiz Show, and The Shawshank Redemption. Another Tom Hanks one I've never gotten the appeal of is Apollo 13. I thought it was incredibly boring. He has been in a few great ones, though - Cast Away, Catch Me If You Can, Philadelphia, The Polar Express, The Terminal.
