Can Dogs be racist?

We had a very racist dog. We adopted him so it wasn't our fault. Everytime he saw one particular guy on our road, he would lift his leg on him. The guy got real pi$$ed off. After that the guy would run when he saw the dog. The dog can't catch him with only three legs on the ground.

It works both ways. When I lived in Columbia I had a female 50/50 Lab and German Shepherd mix that looked like a 100% jet black German Shepherd. She was one of the nicest dogs you'ld ever want to meet and never barked or chased anyone. We used to take her to the big flea market at the drive-in movie theater off RT 40 in Catonsville, and black people would just about run from her. If they saw her coming they would either turn around, cross to the other side of the lane, or walk over to another isle. If she came up from behind someone and they saw her they would just about jump out of their skins. At a minimum they would show signs of discomfort. They never acted that way when I had an all white female shepherd, just to the all black one.

This was adults and kids too.

We once had a mixed lab, who absolutely hated anyone in uniform, i.e. the UPS driver, or the SMECO Meter Reader.

We also had two pets that disliked children....a poodle, and a cockatiel (bird). As those two pets were adopted, I felt that in the past, children has mistreated them.

We now have a sheltie/poodle that is sometimes overly friendly, and a beagle who only has a problem with "Amish Buggies," and "Thunderstorms!":smile:

Our dog was an equal-opportunity hater :lol: Actually, he did discriminate - against anyone who didn't live in his house. :lol:

Our dogs don't get out often into the "Real World!" Haven't really checked to see if they are color-blind.:biggrin:

Chessies...

I've got a friend that has an 8 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever
who does not like Orientals! She goes absolutely bonkers over Japanese and Koreans.
I know the dog loves chinese food, , she will eat those crispy noodles until you run out, and then stand there wagging her tail for more, making these pitiful groaning noises; but oriental guests are not supposed to be on the menu!

My dawg isn't racist, but he does show a preferential bias towards anybody in any kind of uniform. But he loves police and cammies best. However he sometimes gets hunters and soldiers confused (both wear cammies and both carry guns).
