Metrocast is a sneaky little Bastard

OK, first the background. For TV I use DirectTV, around November of 05, I finally got rid of my dial-up because Metrocast bought out GMP and offered cable internet only service in my area. Monthly cost was $39.99 if you already have cable or $49.99 for internet service alone. Fast forward to today.

I was following the other Metrocast thread and when someone posted their initial monthly cost for internet only service it came out to $32.99 as a promotional new sign up till the end of the year ($39.99 after) and no $10 dollar surcharge.

OK, with that info I contacted Metroass and asked about their policy of charging a $10 dollar monthly surcharge to us cable internet users only and was immediately told, Oh we will take you off that program!!! She told me Metroass no longer charges that fee and if you call to complain, we remove it.

I asked how far back did they stop charging this fee and she stated she did not know but it was fairly recent (B/S). I asked why customers using my similar service where never notified, she stated they don't do that and only if you call to inquire will the additional fee be dropped. What freakin B/S!!!

Anyway, just an FYI to other pound puppies like myself who may be paying too much.

Oh and to the lady on the phone, you should have started out your story with "Once upon a time"; anyway enjoy your lunch...

IMO, Metrocast should credit your account back to when they no longer began charging that fee. When I get home I'm going to thoroughly go over my bill. :yay:

Thanks for the info. I'm also going to look into that. I'm pretty sure that the misses and I will be able to get a little compensation out of the fact that you have to ask in order to save 10 bucks. She has a way of telling people to go eff themselves without saying. I love it!

Well metrocast lied to me too, saying that just because I only had their internet service they would always charge me a 10.00 fee. Ok, so just here recently about 3 weeks ago I signed up for digital cable and hbo/cinemax for 6.95 promotional. If I ever see anything fishy on my bill I won't hesitate to call!

How would you know?

Adding an extra charge to the bill I haven't seen before and I would know that it wasn't a service rendered.

Glad I could help! I was worried that the salesman at the Open house was lying, seems not. I will still wait until first bill to start change from erols.
The people contracted to Metrocast to do install seemed competant and with it.
So far, good help from Metrocast, knock on wood. I had resisted going to them for high speed internet becaus of the charge. Now it will cost about $10 a month extra over Erols and the extra phone line.

Finally some good news here!

Can't get over how fast this!

This charge WAS known, it was just dropped, appaently to new customers. The argument is that all should have been changed automatically. It is like Verizon and AT&T, unless you ask, you don't always get the latest, lower, rates.

So I've been told that the charge will be removed from this point forward. When I asked about a credit, the customer rep said she can't do that. :cussing:

Thank you, chernmax. :flowers:

So, you can now get internet-only cable from Metrocast for $39.99/month w/o being forced to buy the super-basic TV service for an additional $39.95?

Is that the 1.5-Mbps or 4-Mbps service?

Comcast just upped my bill thanks to Peterhead Angelos. Now it is $113.90
Expanded Basic TV $51.95
High speed internet $57.95 (includes $5 gateway rental)
Taxes $4.00

Yes and with 4Mbps service for that price...

There is also a new customer special going on right now.

$32.99 per month till the end of the year, includes modem and free installation. After the new year, than the price will jump back to $39.99

That's why I switched to Dishnetwork 2 years ago. Cable was high as he[[, the service stunk and it wasn't that good a picture(when it was on). I love my dish and my DSL. It may not be as fast as cable, but it's more than fast enough for what I do. Dump em and get a dish. Either one is better than cable. The only real difference is Dishnetwork has Sirius and DirectTV has XM. Switch today if you can. :yay: :yay:

You could probably save another $5 if you bought your own cable modem and didn't lease one from Metrosexualcast. Unless you think you may switch back to DSL/Dial-up. Best Buy has them.

I will be glad when technology takes over and ISP's are able to broadcast cable. Metrocast sucks, it has sucked throughout it's past 5 name changes. Back when Isabel hit, I was without internet and cable for 45 days. That is how long it took them to fix the problem after sending out 3 incompetent techs. Those azzes refunded me a whopping $10 for those 45 days. Noone would hear me out that even though they said I had cable, the cable wasn't working in my house. Needless to say, I dropped them after that and got DSL through Verizon. DSL wasn't much better because it always seemed to have blackout periods. Granted, that was years ago, and technology may have improved for DSL. Now, in NC they have Time Warner. Different name, same bad service and obnoxious pricing. Because my apartment faces the wrong direction, I can't get sattelite service. I refuse to pay $60 for basic cable here, so I get 2 channels. ABC and FOX.

Good MetroC exp:

I called the 800 number for Customer Service and got "Pam"/ I told her my current months bill was missing the discount for turning in my DirecTV and DirecWAY recievers.

She stated she didn't know about DirecWAY but would look back at past bills. She did, saw the discount on my JUNE bill, and informed me that I didn't get the discount for either July or August as well as the current bill for September.

All told she credited my account for almost $90, and I paid my Sept bill while I had her on the phone.

Luckily for Metrocast Pam took the call, if it was the ignorant woman I usually talk to in the local office I was ready to cancel my service, and go back to DirecTV.
