Speaking of feral cats, Rich (names may be changed to protect the guilty) was in the hardware store a couple of weeks ago looking for something, anything, to get rid of some feral cats he had in his neighborhood. I may or may not have obliged him with his needs.

But I remember as a kid on the farm, as the cat population became too much to deal with, one of the ways we controlled the population was by catching the wild cats with a crabnet then putting them in a feedsack with a few rocks and throwing them in the creek. Well believe it or not, one day while cutting tobacco near the creek shore, we heard cat like sounds coming from the marsh. So we started looking around and found that one of the cats had washed up into the marsh still in the feed sack and was still alive. It was a black cat – we let that cat live the rest of its 8 lives with us on the farm. He deserved to.

Before anyone asks - no we do NOT sell feed sacks at the hardware store but we do sell a variety of rocks….. For your landscaping needs.

No cat deserved that.
