St. Mary's Hospital

I was just wondering what everyones thought's were on St. Mary's Hopital and the staff? If you have had to use the place for whatever reason what was your experience like?

I think the place sucks and the way that the board members there treat there employee's is cruel.

While I have not been a patient at either yet, I have accompanied family members to the ER at St. Mary's and visited patients at both hospitals and overall have no complaints.

There are always going to be individuals with attitudes, or having a bad day, but if you look at the big picture, I believe they both provide quality care.

An individual that I know took there there son there for his wrist/arm. He fell on it and the parents thought that it may be broken. Well they done an x-ray and said that it was sprained. Two days later they recieve a call from the hospital and said that the x-ray was never read and that his arm was broken. Can you believe that. The boy went two days with a broken arm. There has been so many bad calls there. This one could of been avoided just by reading an x-ray. How hard is that?

In the past when I have had to or someone that I one has had an x-ray done I make them some me the x-ray. Just to make sure that it was read.

You call this quality care?? Yes some individuals do have attitudes and some have bad days but should you decline them of proper attention? If you are in serious pain I think that there is going to be some sort of an attitude. What do you do just let the person suffer because of the attitude or treat them with respect as you would want to be treated?

Also the board members there too treat there employees like s#!^. That there many be a factor on why some individuals that work there don't treat some patients with respect.

St. Mary's Hospital SUCKS! I took my 2 and half year old there about a year ago. She had fallen at daycare and couldn't walk....the ER doctor said that according to her x-rays, she 'bruised' her HIP and to go home and let her rest. My husband and I were unsatisfied with that dx, so we took her to the pediatrician the next day. We had another set of x-rays done and she broken her ANKLE....how is the bruised hip related to the broken ankle? She was in a full leg cast for 8 weeks....

So, my personal experience leaves me to formulate the opinion that St. Mary's Hosptial is a terrible hospital and will avoid it like the plague....:barf:

I had to take my son there about 4 years ago. He had an Upper GI virus and was dehydrated. He ran know fever at all. It was about 10:00 at night when it took him because he had vomitted up everything that I had pumped into him. They pumped more fluids in him my month and at about 3 the next morning he vomitted again. By that time he was so dehydrated that could not get an IV started. Finally after about 5 minutes of holding him down they got it. Well it didn't even hit his vein. It backed up in his arm and they had to do it all over again. Well this time I told them to find something that would numb a couple of areas before you do this. They did so but forgot to lengthen the IV cord. That night a nurse finally did it. Well they did that but the cord that is actually inside your vein a blood clot formed in that. They had to take it apart piece to flush the clot. They had to suringe it out. They could not pass if through because it they had done so it would of either gone to his heart or lung and killed him.
I have never taken my kids back. I go strait to Childrens Hospital. It may be far to travel. But these are my kids and I will do anything to insure proper care.

Here's my story:

Several years ago I broke my collar bone in a skiing accident. Went to St. Mary's Hospital, gave them my insurance info and they patched me up. I received a statement from my insurance company AND the hospital, saying that my bill was taken care of, have a nice day. Three years later, I started receiving notices from a collection agency, saying I had a past due amount for $200 of emergency services. I called the collection agency and the hospital to find out what the problem was and they said that the bill was never taken care of. In the meantime, I didn't have the same insurance any more and couldn't even remember what company it was with. I had tossed the bills and the notices that the bills had been paid. So now it's my word against theirs.

My question is: Why did it take them three years to notify me of an outstanding balance, if in fact there was one? Had they even sent it a year later, I'd have still had the paperwork and could have disputed it.

What?!
A while back I had to take my boyfriend to the ER due to a severe ear ache. We waited FOREVER to be seen and finally got called back. The ER doc gave him some ear drops and something to ease to pain a little. The next day it was still hurting him bad, so I took him to the Breton Urgent Care, we were seen right away and the doc there look at his ear and immediately admitted him to the hospital?!?! He was in the hospital for 4 day for a stupid ear infection before they finally had an ENT see him. After been seen by the specialist, he was released the next day. The doctors at St. Marys are a joke!!

I went through the same thing. Had insurance card at the time of service. Paid my co-pay. Just bought a house and on my credit report there is was. Bought my house in August of last year. Still trying to get it strait. Some BS about a Dr. Fastow. I don't have the insurance. I was on my Dads policy still and he never recieved a bill nor did I. Contacted the insurance company and they told the collect agency that they would have to take it as a lost because it was beyond they aloud time. But I still had to put our $1500.00 extra at the time of settlement to by the house. Still trying to get that back. Waiting on the paperwork from the collection agency.

I am so sorry that all of you have had such negative experiences at St. Mary's Hospital. I still feel the negative episodes are few and far between and would appreciate others defending SMH if your experience has been better than these. Or . . . am I just lucky?

You guys won't believe this. I had to use St. Mary's Hospital over the weekend. I almost cut my finger off using the electric hedge clippers. Just when I said I wasn't going to use that hospital again. But I can say this much I got to give them the bird. Had an x-ray done of my middle finger and got to flick them off.

From the few experiences that I've had with St. Mary's hospital, I'm fairly neutral. I received adequate care from the hospital which I couldn't get from other closer sources of "health care" which I won't elaborate upon unless anyone is curious. The OB/GYN associated with St. Mary's Hospital is very good.

I have never had a bad experience with the hospital. I did once with a particular doctor at ER and when I complained to the Chief of ER, he waived my bill, except for the lab tests. I also delivered my daughter there, and the birthing room and staff were terrific during my stay.

I had a problem with that Dr. Fastow guy, too! I had to get my finger stitched in the emergency room, and I was still under my parents' Blue Cross Blue Shield, which should have at least paid SOMETHING. But I got collection letters from that Dr. Fastow joker for a year! I had no clue what was going on. I thought it was my fault or that my insurance got screwed up, so I coughed up the $150. Man, I feel dumb now.

Did you no that St. Mary's Hospital is an privately owned business. Its not like other Hospitals that have sponsor's. Now I see way there is so much trouble with them and there billing too. Believe me they don't treat there employees an better.
