Spending hours staring at a computer screen may raise the risk of glaucoma, a progressive eye disease that can lead to blindness, scientists believe.

The dramatic discovery contradicts years of advice which suggested that gazing at computers did not damage the optic nerve. Researchers aim to replicate the study to confirm the findings.

:yikes: I've always had perfect vision and never needed eye screenings, and really didn't know anything about glaucoma. I checked out one medical website and it says that people under the age of 45 with any of the risk factors should be checked every 2 years. If heavy computer use is now a risk factor, maybe I should start going. I spend 7+ hours a day at work in front of a computer, and another 1-3 hours at home after it gets dark outside, doing homework, surfing, and chatting.

See this is the problem with so many people using their computers for porn instead of the good old fashioned magazines and videotapes.
