Just a heads-up on a situation at Columbia Horse Center. They've put down three horses stabled in their school horse barn. They're under quarantine, MDA Vets are working on the situation. I don't think we have any cause for alarm unless you have a horse who was at one of their recent shows or have come in contact with a horse who was. Best wishes to CHC, we all hope they pull through this with no futher cases and are soon back to normal.

Here's the link to the MDA site and the updated from CHC . Here's some of what I'm reading from other sites "Exposed horses will show a fever only for about one day of around 102 will go off feed etc. They seem to be feeling better then it hits them, basically without warning and it's only a matter of hours before they have to be put down. It was not a long going noticeable illness." They're speculating Neuro Rhino. No facts as of yet though.

Hey Appy,

The Md Dept of Agriculture has diagnosed it as equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) or rhino (neurologic form). They believe it's contained. The CHC site says they're letting boarders back on site with precautions. See the MD Dept of Ag site, for the full update (Apr 5).
