Hello everyone. Newbie here. Going to be finally crossing off one of those "crazy things to do before I die" on March 18th! Am doing a tandem skydive (the kind where the instructor is attached to your back) at the Orange County Airport in Virginia. If anyone has ever wanted to do this, here is the info - www.skydiveorange.com It's $235.00 for the tandem jump. YAHOOOOOOO! I'm gonna be screaming all the way DOOOOWWWWNNNNN!!!

BadGirl

I am so very blessed
When I did it a few years ago, I had my eyes closed practically the entire trip downward. Had to do it a second time just to see what I missed the first trip. Oh yeah.....I recall not taking a a breath, so felt like passing out when I landed.

Sometimes it is pretty cool to think back and say "Hey, I did that." Othertimes, I just say "What the Hell was I thinking?!?!"

Rule 1: Never jump out of a perfectly good airplane. :lmao:

Well, there's no such thing as a perfectly good airplane. I've done skydiving in my younger years and it is an exhilarating experience. Yes, done it 24 times and have a "Young and Stupid" (Naval Parachutist) pin to show for. Anyway, don't get disappointed the first couple jumps, cause you will not enjoy it until you do the freefall. The first jump is not scary at all, it's the second jump that you need to worry about. Have fun!

The skydiving school that was at St.Mary's closed. They kept dropping people through the pattern. It is not nice to have a body zip past your windscreen when you are on approach; ask any pilot. It is disconcerting.

It used to be entertaining for us folks on the ground. They'd drop a bunch of folks. Sometimes the winds would shift and they'd go out in a truck looking for people that missed the airport. It is really hard to miss an airport.

Funniest thing I saw (funny to watch - not funny to do) was a guy that thought he was too good to land in the drop zone and decided to land by the tee hangars. I was standing right there watching this guy approach. He was too high and too fast. He picked up to miss the parked car and slammed face first into the side of the hangar. He slid down the side and dropped into a heap. He was OK, but he left a body shaped dent in the end of the hangar. :killingme

I have a list of things I want to do before I die. So far, I have swam with the dolphins, sworn off pantyhose and now I am learning to ride a motorcycle. Next is learning to golf and reading the bible (currently working on). I will never, ever jump out of an airplane......

did you know that statistically, more golfers die every year than people that jump out of planes?

just something to think about.
