    Dominance Theory and David Mech

Thanks for posting this... I try to describe this to people that it's the difference between being a heavy-handed dictator and a stable leader... on the flip side, can't be wishy-washy, either.

    Thanks, that is great.

    Dog dna testing

The reason that the American Pit Bull Terrier isn't included in the tests is because the tests only test for AKC recognized breeds. The APBT isn't one of them. However, the Amstaff and APBT are so closely related (the Amstaff merely having been a name change in the breed so that the AKC would...

    Dog dna testing

One of my training locations is in PG county, there sure are a lot of "Bulldog" and "Boxer" mixes running around there, adopted from the local shelters and rescues. The people who developed the tests did not want it to be used against dogs that fall under BSL. Where would lines be drawn... if a...

    Dog dna testing

The tests have purposely disincluded pits, staffies, and any "bully" breeds, so they could not be used as conclusive evidence in court cases. It will show the closest genetic match if you trace the lines back- boston terrier! Most of my clients who have had mixes that looked very bully say...

    Dog -Lymes disease..

Am watching his ears and see how again he's starting to dig in them, and I see brown goop in there again :cds: . So I have been putting 1/2 vinegar/water solution in his ears every 4 days or so ....... Why so infrequently? Vinegar/ water is safe to use more often. Once every four days...

    Golden Retreivers

"PS I have heard negative things about Training by Julie also  (not all things they have done have been SO positive) And just to let you know - to show you what your trainer does not know - the prongs DO NOT GO INTO THE DOGS NECK and those plastic nubs really do not do a dang...

    Golden Retreivers

Double vet bills, food bills, etc. Be prepared! Had a golden, fabulous dog but had allergies to everything, including grass, chronic ear infections his whole life, arthritis early. Get one trained well, then add a second. Social learning can be a blessing or a curse.

    Trachea Collapse

Need to check with vet; not always clear, as symptoms can be coughing from exertion, random coughing/ hoarseness, which is similar to a dog with history of kennel cough/ respiratory illness. Tracheal collapses are rarely 100%- think dented hose.

    Behavioral Issues

You definitely don't want to muzzle when you are not home; can be dangerous. I had a client's dog who began spontaneously digging at the carpet...turns out there were little critters under the house. Try feeding your dog in the crate, at first with the door open, then close while eating...
