See, I never know what this is, really. Some people, it's a willful thing, like believing your children are the smartest or the most beautful. Objectively, measurably - they're not, but you FEEL that way, so it becomes true, at least, for you. But we've had any number of Presidents who - if you read their stories and their accomplishments - their personal pain, and their chaacter - it's simply astonishing that such greatness was ever bestowed on this country. We've been blessed by them.
Some of it, I think is LIKE that - some of it, because they want to believe it. I mean, yeah, I WANT to believe that Bush was a great President, but he really wasn't. I have met people who met him - one who befriended him before he even got into politics. A seriously nice man, in person. But at best, he was mediocre. But - people SAY things like that, because it's expected of them. You just DON'T say, your wife isn't the loveliest woman at the dance. It's just - wrong.
But I think a lot of it is - we have generations of people who don't know anything about history - don't know anything about any President more than ten years ago. When they rank "greatest President" - the top ten always have about eight that have been President since the 60's. Meaning, within the lifetime of those being polled. I've seen lots of these polls - nobody knows CHIT about hardly any of the first two dozen Presidents or so.
And when asked - CANNOT point to a single thing they did. There's no objective answer. Like others say, it's all about the feels.

My best friend and his entire family are true blue Democrats. When Trump was elected, they cried. Literally. About 6 months after Biden was "elected", they professed their admiration for him. We have an unspoken pact not to discuss politics to remain friends, and he is a good and decent person other than his political leanings, so not sure how he feels these days, and truly afraid to ask and find he still thinks Biden is doing a good job. But I am curious....

I find it inconceivable that anyone at all would vote for someone who is so mentally handicapped, so obviously suffering from dementia.
I have a friend whose career as a psychiatrist includes going to court to attest to the mental abilities of old folks, a job he's been doing for 15 yrs.
I asked him about a year ago what his assessment of Biden would be, from a distance. He thinks Biden is doing great.
I just walk away, I am not going to question or argue with.
Most of my New England relatives are still kind of hybrid Truman Democrats/Eisenhower Republicans and will not vote for modern Democrats.
