‘Not holding you hostage’

However, another announcement from a conductor seemed to conflict with claims that the passengers weren’t hostages as they were told, “Please remember that you are traveling on federal property so the cops outside of here cannot help you on here.”

Concerned travelers with dogs reported that they were not allowed to take their pets for walks so that they could relieve themselves, but evidently, that matter was resolved as Amtrak provided a statement to ABC News that said, “We have been providing regular updates to customer, along with meals, snack packs and beverages. The onboard staff is working with pet owners to provide bathroom breaks.”

Customers reported their “frustration” and felt as though they were not being given enough information about what was happening while they were stranded.

I never understand why people sit there meekly and tolerate that crap. 37 hours??? With no explanation??? You'd think they'd start busting up the place, and yet....they just sit there.

what are you going to do, jump from the train in the middle of nowhere?
As frustrating as it is, the employees on the train and even Amtrak don't want to deal with it either.
This is because passenger rail traffic in most of the US travels over rails owned by freight lines.
This results in lower speeds and the freights get the right of way
Railroads are not subsidized like roads and airlines, and even waterways.
So you get what you get.

Just sneakin' around....

I would absolutely consider that, after checking my GPS and MAPS to see just how far it was or what was nearby. Find a local Uber or taxi and have them pick you up at a nearby location. It's not like they were in the middle of nowhere, just a few miles from Rt 95. They were in/close to Lake City.

We've looked to the auto train a few times. And unless your retired and time means nothing to you, it simply doesn't make sense.

Took the auto train once and that was enough. If I had been able to sleep, it wouldn't have been too bad, ended up sitting in the smoking car all night with a woman from Russia. She introduces herself (Natasha), asked her where Boris was, thinking she wouldn't get it, she responded 'he hunting moose and squirrel'...Funny lady and interesting to gab with.

My dad's 1st cousin, June Foray, was the voice of Rocky, Natasha and the other female characters on the Bullwinkle Show.
I got to meet her Easter week 2017 when a couple cousins of my generation of the family flew me to LA to meet the last few of my dad's generation. June was just 5 months shy of her 100th birthday. She passed away just 1 1/2 months before that day.
