CSM “When Our Rivers Collide” by Artist Wesley Clark Kicks off CSM’s Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery Exhibit

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) presents the Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery Exhibit “When Our Rivers Collide” by artist Wesley Clark Sept. 3 – Oct. 1. at CSM’s Fine Arts Center in La Plata. The public is invited to enjoy this compelling, free exhibition.

In this exhibit, featured artist Wesley Clark shares pieces that he created that explore issues related to African Americans in America and the African Diaspora.

“The foundation of the work is to challenge and draw parallels between historical and contemporary cultural issues,” Clark recently shared. “The targeting of black men and women, gentrification, reparations, and the overall state of the country take center stage as issues at the forefront of our lives today. Objects that are antiques or antiqued are associated with historical relevance and wealth. By placing these issues in an antiqued aesthetic, I am linking the value and relevance in furthering a discussion around a particular issue. Presenting historic and contemporary social and economic disparities drive my conceptual process.”

The La Plata Campus is located at 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. To view an interactive map of the La Plata Campus, visit https://www.csmd.edu/about/locations/la-plata-campus/
