Got a 20% coupon from Lowes so ordered a gallon of deck stain/sealer. On the receipt is an added $1.15 Maryland paint tax. Thought it was a joke until I looked online. SERIOUSLY? In additon to the sales tax? I'm surprised there isn't also a "re-elect us again so we can pick your pockets even more" tax as well. Morons.

Thx for this info. My daughter and I debated back and forth on whether to incorporate this “tax” into our retail price or list it separately. I overruled her and decided to list it separately so the consumer can see how our government is fleecing us. I had talked to another business owner who was going to incorporate it into their retail. I was curious how the big guys were handling this.

Yep, goes to a non-profit that is not registered in the state. If there needs to be a tax, give the monies collected in the county to the county to off set the household hazmat disposal program.

A Somalian learing center?

One would think. But Democrats do this all the time - all the taxes that were supposed to go to education, then never did. They say that sht because "we're going to tax you more so we can stick it in our own pockets and pay off cronies" doesn't sound as good.

This company is supposed to set up I think 150 different locations we can take old/unwanted paint to. Most of them will be in locations like Lowes, paint stores, that sort of thing.

When I checked last week, Sherwin Williams in LP City was the only sanctioned place in St Mary's to accept old paint. The company offered to us to become an acceptance location - we denied. Looks like too much of a PIA for us to implement and oversee.

Doesn't the CPU th landfill have HAZMAT days? I know I've taken old paint to that before. There's one coming up again soon.

May 30 at the St Mary's landfill.
I'll have to go through my old stock and get a jump on it. I never, ever thought I'd have to worry about spray cans going bad, but it's not all oil-based or lacquer anymore.

Why would you ever incorporate a real tax into your price, that just makes others who don't look like a better value and hides what the government is doing from the customer. Not only should the receipt list the tax, it should have an explanation at the bottom and a your congressperson's phone number...

If it's latex, perfectly fine to pour it out onto a sheet and let it and the can dry, then toss them. No need to take latex paint to hazmat. Disposal fees for latex paint is stupid.
