1 Chronicles 24:20 As for the rest of the descendants of Levi:
from the sons of Amram: Shubael;
from the sons of Shubael: Jehdeiah.
21 As for Rehabiah, from his sons:
Ishiah was the first.
22 From the Izharites: Shelomoth;
from the sons of Shelomoth: Jahath.
23 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the first,[a] Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third and Jekameam the fourth.
24 The son of Uzziel: Micah;
from the sons of Micah: Shamir.
25 The brother of Micah: Ishiah;
from the sons of Ishiah: Zechariah.
26 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi.
The son of Jaaziah: Beno.
27 The sons of Merari:
from Jaaziah: Beno, Shoham, Zakkur and Ibri.
28 From Mahli: Eleazar, who had no sons.
29 From Kish: the son of Kish:
Jerahmeel.
30 And the sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder and Jerimoth.
These were the Levites, according to their families. 31 They also cast lots, just as their relatives the descendants of Aaron did, in the presence of King David and of Zadok, Ahimelek, and the heads of families of the priests and of the Levites. The families of the oldest brother were treated the same as those of the youngest.

Yet another list..... Check this out.... the very last sentence... the families were treated the same.... now I have to find out what that means.
This is from the easy English site.
The rest of the descendants of Levi were all those who were not from Aaron. This list shows the leaders of the families in the time of David. They are from the clans that came from Kohath and Merari. But this list does not include the clans that came from Gershon.
The Levites formed 24 groups to do special tasks. The way that they chose the order of the groups was the same as for the priests. All the families were equal for this purpose.

So these were the ones that would shine the silver or vacuum the drapes.... they didn't need to be directly related to Aaron?
These comments are from GodVine.
The object of this second enumeration of the Levitical families (compare 1 Chronicles 23:7-23) seems to be the designation of the heads of the families in David's time. The omission of the Gershonites is curious, and can only be accounted for by supposing that the author did not find any account of their heads in his authorities. The addition to the Merarites 1 Chronicles 24:26-27 is also curious. It brings the number of families up to twenty-five, which is one more than we should have expected.
These likewise cast lots - The Levites were divided into twenty-four orders; and these were appointed by lot to serve under the twenty-four orders of the priests: the first order of Levities under the first order of priests, and so on. The meaning is not very clear: "both elder and younger," says Bishop Patrick, "had their places by lot, not by seniority of houses. They who were of greater dignity drew lots against those who were of less; and were to take their courses according to the lot they drew." This may have been the case; but we are very little interested in the subject.
In that last statement in the commentary... the commentator says "we are very little interested in the subject." Is that quite the statement to find.... quite feisty.... "I don't know and I don't care" sounds like what I'm hearing....
Finally.... here's the post from biblstudytools.com.
even the principal fathers over against their younger brethren;
the sense is, either that the one stood over against the other, to be distributed by lot, the one as well as the other; or they were chosen by lot, let it fall as it would, without any regard to age or dignity, to the seniority or largeness of houses and families; but as they were chosen, be they younger or elder, richer or poorer, their families more or less numerous and ancient, so they took their places.

OOOHHHHH I get it.... The priests had to be from the specific family.... their names were chosen by lot to fit them into the schedule. There had to be a priest on duty 24/7. Some of the duties the priests had to do could turn deadly in an instant.... [which is why they wore a rope around their waste when the performed some of the services in the tent... if a priest wasn't available to rescue them... at least they could yank them back out by the rope] Other duties didn't require the priest.... hefting an ox up on the alter might require some help.... and yep... housework and maintenance... those fell to the others from the families of the Levites.
So this is another employee schedule. Those on this list were not part of Aaron's clan... so they didn't have to do the deadliest chores but they did have to be on a schedule.... and this schedule was drawn by lottery as well.
These were the special teams.... called in to lug, haul, cleanup, and repair.... rich or poor, young or old, as long as they were direct descendants of Levi... they had a place on the schedule.
