Ubi bene ibi patria
"More than one in 10 people in the United States go hungry, according to government figures suggesting its food programs are falling short in the world's wealthiest country.

More than 35 million people in a country of some 294 million went hungry last year, 390,000 more than in 2005, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest Household Food Security report.

Of the total, 12.63 million were children. Put another way, nearly one in five U.S. children either went without enough food during the course of the year or had food but could never take future meals for granted"

I dont believe many went hungry in this country from a lack of food or food programs. I dont doubt many went hungry, Those who did, was it because the food or the program wasnt there , or because they were too ill informed or spent the food stamp money on booze, gambling or a new color TV.
Certainly I dont doubt some children did go hungry ,but again was it the fault of the parent or the government. The programs are there, who's fault is it if they are ignored or misused?

Yeah yeah. And there are 10,000 new homeless people born every day.

Yadda yadda we've heard the exaggerated stories before, and then they are later refuted by the same people who shopped them around in the first place. :coffee:

Starvation is nothing to joke about. The picture is pitiful and I dont think there is anyone in this forum who would refuse aid to the truly hungry. having said that we want our aid to go to those who need it, not to be stolen by the detestable governments they live under.

Its pathetic to see countries that once were supplying food for a continent reduced to starvation because of racial strife. Certainly so many did not like Apartheid, because whites were in charge in a majority black country, but are they better off now? Is there any hope that this may get straightened out without white intervention?

Back to our own country. There are private as well as government means to get food for a family, for the children, or for the homeless adults ,and although we would all love to end poverty and hunger, how responsible can we be held for people who are too stupid to seek that aid, or too mentally ill be helped outside an institution , an institution where liberal do-gooders decided the mentally ill can check themselves out and roam around the cities of this nation filthy and starving if thats what they want to do.
