I have a few pieces of geedunk from that fateful weekend. We didn't realize anything had happened until we were safely back in Jacksonville. Then I scrambled to save as much of the stuff they handed out at the trade show floor.

Yep. CNO support staff. We flew Adm Kelso out to the infamous event. Little did he know that weekend would be his undoing. And he was a bubblehead, which is more unusual to find at an aviation convention.

It was my understanding (from a number of Navy folks I worked with later on) that once all the accusations got the opportunity to get flung it wasn't nearly the scandal the "news" said it was; that it was a manufactured brouhaha for political/ideological purposes. Kinda like some of the silliness we are seeing today....

But I was neither Navy or an aviator so I have no idea what either community saw as "normal."
