1 Thessalonians 2:17 But, brothers and sisters, when we were orphaned by being separated from you for a short time (in person, not in thought), out of our intense longing we made every effort to see you. 18 For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan blocked our way. 19 For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? 20 Indeed, you are our glory and joy.
Paul is the main writer of the letter. He tried to get back to the church. According to Paul, Satan blocked the way.
It's easy to have your way blocked. Just this morning I was sitting out on the back deck for a few minutes. I said my morning prayer and as I was saying it two crows came across the sky. They are regulars in my back yard trees. One has a branch that he is particularly fond of. He seems to come by every morning and perch himself on that one branch in that one tree and look down on me. It's like we say a silent good morning. His buddy flies off to the large poplar by the driveway.
Sometimes when the winds are blowing off the bay, my birds can't just perch on those tallest trees. They get blocked by the wind. I've seen them flying against the wind some mornings. It seems to be all they can do just to make it to the lower branches that aren't being swayed so badly. Sometimes they don't make it to my back yard at all.
Paul was being moved by the Holy Spirit. There were people Satan had a strangle hold on. There were people who needed Paul and Silas to simply show up in their lives. I'm thinking of the prison guard in Acts 16:16-40. So even though Paul, Silas, and Timothy were thankful for the people of Thessalonica and wished they could spend all their time with them, enjoying Salvation, there were places to go, people to teach, and in Paul's case, tents to make, so that the Gospel could be spread in spite of Satan.
This morning I was thinking.... I'm really not in the mood to be writing about Thessalonians. I wish I could just skip it and go to the games in facebook. About then the crow over by the driveway squawked three times. It's almost like he was saying "get to work". Then my buddy crow turned around on the branch like he wanted to look right at me this morning. The other crow squawked again three times. Another type of bird piped in and chirped three times. OK.... I can take a hint. I'll "get to work". LOL
Sure I know the birds aren't talking to me but I enjoy writing a good story once in a while.
