1 Thessalonians 5:1 Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
Verse 3 speaks to me.
We all know that Jesus told us that Jesus said we don't know when He'll return. We hear all the time how know one knows the hour. Matthew 24:36. So Paul, Silas, and Timothy are just repeating the same.
It's the labor pains that speaks to me. I've had labor pains and they are really destructive. Labor pains can turn a smart, logical woman [like me] into a blithering idiot. When I was in labor with my first child, the pain got into my brain and I really got the idea that there must be some magical zipper that they could use to get the baby out!
We've all seen, either in person or on media [TV or movies] how sensible men turn into a bungling idiot when the labor begins. I remember an old I Love Lucy show. Ricky and company run around the apartment, forgetting to call the doctor and forgetting to take Lucy with them when they all go to call the cab to the hospital.
We laugh at it.... but just how funny do you think it will be when people see a real Jesus breaking through the clouds on His return! Mark 13:26
