It's no surprise that the worst are cancer charities. People get paid big bucks for cancer treatment, so any "cure" wouldn't be beneficial. Pretty sickening.

There are some good worthwhile cancer charities, but you have to do your research.

My parents and I were just talking about this. This is my bf's theory. I did not want to think that horribly about it, but it all really does make sense. Yet, people are dying every day from cancer. I've lost some great people in my life from it and am in the process of losing my grandmother from it. :ohwell:

In cases like this, you also need to look at charities that actually fund "RESEARCH" versus just support. Many of the cancer charities are valid legit charities that reach out and offer support to those suffering from cancer. But not that many cancer charities actually fund research and treatment devlopment. Can't be cured unless money's poured into research.

Unfortunately, not all cancer is created equal. Think of it like breaking a bone... People want a cure for cancer, people want a "cure" for breaking a bone. Some bones have that "cure" - a broken finger can have a splint on it, a broken femur can be screwed together, a broken ankle can have a plate put in. All can be "cured", with no long-term issues. But then you have some that you can't treat... a broken rib. All you can do is say "suck it up" and hope it gets better soon. Then you have other big-time ones, like a broken vertabrae or a broken neck, that can kill you or leave you paralyzed.

All cancer just gets lumped together as "cancer." People don't realize that there are a ton of different types of cancer, and it's not just the location. Look at Lance Armstrong. He had testicular cancer, right? Right. Then it spread into his lungs, into his brain, etc. That doesn't mean he had testicular cancer, lung cancer and brain cancer. He had testicular cancer in his brain, in his lungs, in his testicles. Testicular cancer responds to treatments extremely well. If he had those three different types of cancers, he'd probably not be here today. Because he only had testicular cancer, it was an "easy" treatment.

A long time ago, it was part of my job to inspect this building in Boston for radioactive contamination on a monthly basis. One of the labs near the top floor had some interesting researchers, and I chatted with them once. They joked that they sure didn't do their work for the money, because they got paid almost nothing.

"Well what if you FIND the cure for cancer?" I asked. Then Dr (forget his name, the head of the lab) would get all the credit, they answered.

Puzzled, I asked "then why do you do this, if not for money or recognition. They were quiet for a minute. Maybe even a literal minute.

"The jazz. We do it for the jazz". They just liked the work itself.
