my son got a 6 month suspension for keeping an X-acto blade from art class and having it in his next class (same room) the Teacher caught him cutting up his notebook, and tossed him for having a weapon ( the school system provided ) and called the principal

Just looked it up. Weapon on school property is a felony in the third degree in Florida.
The penalty is
s. 775.082
(d) For a felony of the third degree, by a term of imprisonment not exceeding 5 years.

...
(c) $5,000, when the conviction is of a felony of the third degree.

I would think 10 years old would be old enough to know not to bring a steak knife to school (at least mine would have that much sense), and a :smack: to her parents for not noticing or even letting her bring it in her lunch.

But felony charges? Puh-leeze!

Suspension should be it.

Shame on this school and this county.

Shouldn't they know? Knives don't hurt people or kill people. :sarcasm: Only guns can hurt or kill people. :sarcasm: Knives, swords, box-cutters and everything of the like are harmless. :sarcasm: Guns are the root of all evil, and are the only things that hurt or kill people. :sarcasm:

The insanity. The hypocrisy. :burning:

:lmao:

First lets look at this with some common sense. That is whats lacking here.

Certainly bringing a knife to school to harm another student should be a felony.
The plastic knives they supply at a school lunch are ,I am sure, the cheapest variety of these things made. Probably are less than useless.
I am sure the parents of this child did not know she took a steak knife to school.
Lets look at intent here before we charge her with a felony for committing a misdemeanor.
Zero tolerance is for the zero brained.

Now a common sense approach would be to take away the knife, call the parents, suspend the child for a couple of days, place a note in her jacket for two years whereupon it comes out and is destroyed if it doesnt occur again, and get back to teaching the three R's.

What ever happened to common sense ? Do they take it out of teachers and principals at college or what?

guns don't kill people. knives don't kill people. People kill people. When they finish banning guns, swords, knives, duct tape, etc. What's next? Rope, cars, baseball bats and text-books? For f***'s sake, if someone wants to hurt someone else, they'll find a way. Banning things isn't the answer.

this makes me think of my incident from the end of the school year with my son... he brought a pocket knife to school and got caught. OMG that was a nightmare.

I did that one day when I was in the third grade (give or take a year). I was afraid of some bullies, and more afraid that, if they chose to do something, no one would be present or willing to help... so I did what felt right at the moment. After that one day, I decided against it because I then had a greater fear of being caught.

I took a small knife to school in 12th grade. Teacher took it from me and I didn't get it back. End of story. Not like today and all the bs.

When I was in elementary school I took a pocket knife to school. They took it away and then gave it back to me at the end of the day and told me to make sure I did not bring it back. How times have changed.

I had a tiny screwdriver set on me that I used at work. School kirked out and tried to call it a weapon. Problem is it's too small to actually cause any physical harm to anyone. I argued with the principal and she gave it back and said "My bad." :lmao:
