I signed up for an email address on http://mail.google.com/a/somd.us.
Now google is popping up all over the place. Several times I've tried to access a previously used site and a google comparative pops up. I have a gmail address affiliated with a group which has never caused a problem.
How do I get rid of the new email address and degooglize?

Sounds like your browser may have been hijacked. You may want to uninstall and reinstall it.

You can also turn on your pop-up blocker in your IE to stop it from popping up new windows.

First thing I would check is if you have Google Toolbar installed. When you open Internet Explorer you'll see a toolbar across the top just below where you put the URL (website address). This program is very vulnerable to being hijacked. If you have this, get rid of it by going going to one of the following (depending on how you have Windows set up):

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs

or

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs

A new window will open up called Add or Remove Programs. Look down the list for Google Toolbar and click once on it. Click on Change/Remove and following the instructions to remove it.

You also probably have some sort of malware or spyware and should run several scans on your computer from programs like AVG, Spybot and AdAware. There are several others that folks can recommend as well. Run these scans in "Safe Mode".

Good Luck and Happy Thankasgiving.

Definately run malware check; hubby accidently downloaded "XP Antispyware 2009". It was like the computer had a mind of its own & I also got the 'hijacked' google 'like' sites.

How to remove XP Antispyware 2009 (Uninstall Instructions)

needless to say, that computer is AFU now, total blue screen of death & I'm now trying to fix it.
I used 'Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware'. Be careful when deleting files, I did something wrong & now have a serious error due to no 'ntldr' file missing.
