2 dogs found in Mechanicsville-UPDATE dogs were claimed
[the animal shelter called and the dogs were picked up by their owners. Thank you everyone for reading!
Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I did a quick search and didn't see any specific thread for lost/found animals.
Yesterday my fiance was coming home on the southbound side of route 235 between Mechanicsville elementary and the light at Mechanicsville road. There were two dogs in the middle of the road with no identification tags and no clear sign of where they may have come from as there are not many houses in that particular area. He was able to stop traffic long enough to pick them up so they would not be hit. One was a large black/tan rottie with a chain choke collar (I believe she was a female but I didn't get a real good look at her) and the second was a medium sized light brown pit bull with a nylon collar. They were both VERY friendly and seemed well cared for so im assuming they must have escaped their home.
Anyhow, my fiance brought them to our house on Mechanicsville road in order to contact animal control to pick them up (it was dark at this point and unsafe to go door to door searching for an owner. Long story short animal control took forever and they ran off before he could get here. He showed up as we were leaving to take our daughter trick or treating and obviously didn't search very hard as they were both waiting in the driveway when we got home! Lol. We tried calling again but ended up taking them up to the shelter on 231 as our child is small and we could not hold them until morning and did not want to just let them run and possibly be hit and killed.
Unfortunately I was not aware that tri county is a kill shelter. The owners have 10 days to claim the dogs otherwise we will be contacting a rescue to pick then up. These are definitely someone's pets and we would never forgive ourselves if something happened to them because we had to drop them off. We are planning to canvas the area and knock on every door we can until we find the owner. They were very sweet dogs, just big and energetic and unfortunately we just were not able to hold them until we found the owner.
Thanks in advance and I apologize for the lengthy post! Hopefully this helps our search.
