2-Foot-tall Tap Dance Monsters

Railroad

Routinely Derailed
They flood the corridors in swarms. Pregnant or recently pregnant parents drift around with vacant stares. It's like a scene from a really bad sci-fi horror movie. The noise level is horrendous. And the objective is to teach them how to make more noise? Are you kidding me? Really?!

Money - lots of it, which young families can ill afford - poured into little bitty tap shoes which will be too small in two months. Goofy outfits (karate kids and parents have the same problem). Orchestrated insanity punctuated by flashes of cameras and cell phones recording blackmail pics of kids and parents.

The little monsters whine and cry and insist and demand, milking each session for all the parental concessions they can (and mommy and daddy don't want to look stingy in front of the peers with whom the REAL competition rages).

In a few years, neither the kid nor the parent will realize any benefit whatsoever, and instead be wasting time, energy, and money on some other institutionalized forced parent-child bonding which is a poor substitute for the only beneficial bonding which takes place when parent and child bond on their own at home.

Actually RR there is a huge benefit to to the little ones taking such classes. Especially if they are not enrolled in a preschool or other social setting. It gives them a sense of proper social interaction as well as a fun learning atmosphere. When it comes to the performance, well, that gives them a huge sense of satisfaction there as well. They completed something- typically on stage- and a lot of adults cannot stand up in front of a group of people.

I never was a dance mom when my kid was young, he was a ball playing kiddo... But I understand the need for an outlet for this. As I was also a young parent, I knew I had to sacrifice some things to get him his outlet - I'm fairly sure that's what these other parents are doing as well.
