2 Thessalonians 1:11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.[c]

c.2 Thessalonians 1:12 Or God and Lord, Jesus Christ

Verse 11 starts with "With this in mind,". So we need to look back at the previous verses. The Thessalonians had complained that some of the members had become lazy. These were people who had given their lives to the Lord. They were looking forward to the return of the Lord from the clouds. They were looking forward to Jesus coming back and destroying those who didn't believe and persecuted the Christians.

Humans have a short memory. The best example I can think of is 9/11. It didn't take us long to begin to forget that a foreign enemy attacked us on our own soil. We went back to our daily lives. That's what was happening to some in the church at Thessalonica. They were getting over the murder of their Lord. They were getting over the fact that they expected Him to come back and exact revenge. They were getting lazy.

Paul, Silas, and Timothy taught that salvation is a gracious gift from God. This gift wouldn't be taken back even though the Thessalonians were becoming complacent. So Paul, Silas, and Timothy were praying that the people would continue to Love the Lord and be thankful for the gift of Salvation. Hanging in there, in faith.... continuing to be a shining example of Christ-like living grows the faith and causes the gospel to continue to spread.
