2 Timothy 4:6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

So many of you have been praying for me. My oncologist, at one point, gave me months to live. I'm not comparing myself to Paul. Lord knows that my life has been adventurous but I've never saved the life of an unbeliever as Paul did. However, I have attempted to fight the good fight and I am now attempting to keep the faith. My heart belongs to Jesus first and foremost. As my hubby would say, the religion stuck.

Paul was in a prison as he wrote to Timothy, asking Timothy to remember to bring his coat because it was cold in the prison. Paul knew he was going to be in that prison for the remainder of his life and then he would be put to death. He says that his life is being poured out like a drink offering [Numbers 28:24]. The drink offering was part of the sacrificial ceremony, they poured a little good wine on the meat offering because the aromatic smell was pleasing to God.

Jesus also compared the spilling of His blood as a part of His offering. He first sent an offering of bread around the table. This was the body or meat [like the Passover Lamb]. Then he sent an offering of drink around the table. This was the blood [like the blood of the Lamb painted over the door when death passed over the homes of the Jews in the book of Exodus].

The easy English commentary says:

There will be a day when the Lord Jesus Christ will come again. He will be the judge of all that men and women have done. He will then give that crown as a reward to Paul. He will change Paul to be perfect as he himself is perfect.

This promise is not only for Paul. This same promise is for all who love Christ. It is for all those who are waiting for him to appear. They too will receive this crown. They will become like the Lord Jesus and be perfect.

Paul didn't fear death. He didn't fear judgment in spite of the fact he had murdered innocent believers before Jesus knocked him to the ground and talked to him. He knew he was saved.
