I hope the baby is okay. I've heard so many calls today that I don't normally hear. Maybe it's that time of year. I heard a call for a little on hit in the face by a ball today and he was bleeding badly. I get so sad when I hear of little ones hurting. Especially when you are a parent, it's such a helpless feeling when your little one is hurt and there is not a lot you can do about it.

I heard that the child was having trouble breathing and vomiting. Prayers for the sweet little one and the family.

They were giving CPR instructions over the phone while awaiting EMS. Someone saved this little ones life by doing it. Prayers for the little one.

Imagine the guts it takes to get over your terror and give CPR when it is needed. I am trained, but never had to use it.

Me too and hopefully never will have to. My husband has 3 times in the last year (not on anyone we know, we're both EMTs). I always wonder if I could if it came down to really needing to do it. He says yes, something just takes over, I certainly hope so.

I've used it numerous times, but doesn't matter how many times you have to do it on a child/infant, young person it's awful. The poor mother was so distraught she couldn't give correct directions to the disbatcher. I so hope this has a happy ending.

I know that being a EMT if you are off duty you are not legally obligated to stop, assit, or perform CPR, however you do have a moral and ethical duty to act because of you special training and expertise.

I sure hope if you're the one who is on duty and my life depends on you being able to do it (CPR). That,-- that something just takes over and you are able to perform. If you not certain you can do it even though you are licensed as a EMT, you should reconsider your career field.

I'm sure I could, it's just that since I've never had to use it, the thought is in the back of my mind. I've been on some serious calls and have kept a cool head. If I came upon someone who needed it no matter where it is, I would stop and help. Anyone that is an EMT that doesn't stop to help someone should not be an EMT.

I know people that have been EMTs for many years and have never had to use CPR, but you constantly recert which requires retesting.

Sorry if I went :offtopic: I know that back in the day when I was an EMT
I was put in that situtation and I had to perform CPR on a man whom the call went out as chest pains. I was nervous, scared, just OMG everything. But I never second doubted myself.

Prayers to the family of this Child...... Hope she is doing ok

It will definitely come back to you. It's 'auto pilot' syndrome. I was an EMT, on call and certified to drive a ambulance, from 74 to 76. (I was 20 at the time) I was also part of the group that started our all volunteer community 'program'. And how little Manorville's fire dept and rescue has grown since then.

Now I need to get off my butt and get certified again. I'm not going anywhere, anytime soon, time to give back once again.

And thanks! Don't know what area you serve, but I have respect for those that help others in this capacity. I know Ridge FD, is awesome from when I had to call them for my grand daughter (asthma attack). :flowers:

It's the rescue squad and yes, they are awesome. They've responded to me calling for my son twice. While they were all great, Debbie was the one who kept me at ease. I was paranoid. :yay:

I do not have my EMT certs yet, but if I roll up on an accident or something like that, I will stop and help. I do have minimal first aid, CPR & AED training, also main reason is because of my plates on my truck, you can be sued if someone spots you and you dont stop......
