By a Subaru Outback! Great car! and AWD.

I had a '92 Plymouth Laser RS; basicaly a Mitsubishi Eclipse; that had AWD.
I had fun with it until I got run off the road by a snow plow on 249. I turn the wheel <-- THIS way but the icy road had other plans; and I dumped it in a ditch rounding a curve. Wasn't going "too fast"; didn't slam the brakes; with ABS it doesn't matter anyway. The car just fish-tailed, and off into the ditch I slid.....sideways.

Actually, Driving FWD cars on slick roads is better IMO.

But this tred is about the '12 Cruze. I'm just looking for feedback/opinions on the car.....from an owner.
If and/or when I can get one I will go by a Subaru Outback.

In My Opinion
We test drove it for my daughters first car, I think that is what we will get her.
With the turbo it had way more than enough power, without it was ok but not all that impressive, Ive driven slower cars for sure.
the interior gives you a feeling like a mid price luxury car would give you, the sound system is good. Visibility seemed to be better than most cars in its size, back seat is big enough for a 6 footer to not be cramped.
overall out of all the cars we test drove with her, the Cruze was by far the nicest for the money spent.
The cars we tested were the Mustang, Camaro, focus, Cruze and the one just below the cruze. (cant remember the name of it) Cruze won.

I have a 2011 Cruze Eco w/ 6MT. I love mine. Comfortable, quiet, and has enough power when you need it. I like the audio options (XM, USB, aux input) and bluetooth. Very light controls, including the clutch and shifter.

Also, for the life of my car (36 fill-ups), I'm averaging 40.2 MPG. Granted, a good part of my 14,800 miles so far come from my commute from White Plains to NAS Pax, but that is way better than any other car I've owned.

Pretty much all of my driving will be in and around St. Mary's. I wonder what kinda mileage the Cuze would actually get in town.

My version is rated 28 city. I think most Eco 6MT owners still get well over 30.

Edit - Check out Fuelly.com for different cars and what owners are logging for their mileage.

Nope, one below the Cruze is the Sonic, and were I in the market for a small car, the Sonic LTZ with that same turbo motor might be on the short list, since Dodge has apparently forgotten that theres folks who like small and fast too.

I'm looking for one of the 6MT models. I haven't been to Weingardner in L'town or Bayside yet; but according to the interwebz, Bayside might have one or two.

I was wondering about the man. trans.. Is it a "sloppy" shift? Or have improvements been made since '92?

The Cruze looks like a good option. I'm becoming more of a fan of the new Ford Focus though. It's finally based on the European model and, in my opinion, looks fantastic.

The good thing is that you can now the the LT with the 6MT, but I think the Eco is still geared differently for better mileage. Gears 4, 5, and 6 are all "overdrive".

I also am curious how well the Sonic LTZ hatch 6MT drives. Same engine as the Cruze, and lighter by a couple hundred pounds I think. I may have chosen the Sonic if it were available when I bought the Cruze... I think hatches are cool. Other markets have a Cruze hatch, and a diesel option. Supposedly, the diesel will be coming here.

Shifter is really nice IMO. Much less notchy and sloppy than my '91 Beretta GTZ.

john, Edmunds Inside Line did a comparison between the Mazda 2 and the LTZ 6mt, and even though they gave the cornering nod to the Mazda, the overall test went to the Sonic due to liveability and more power to do stuff:)
