The Charles County Department of Community Services offers many trips and tours throughout the calendar year-bus trips, overnight trips, senior citizen trips, as well as "Fly Away" trips in which you travel to far away destinations such as Bermuda, Australia, and more. Join us for the African-American Tour of Washington, D.C. on Saturday, February 18. The following sites are included in the tour: Martin Luther King Memorial, Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, and The Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum. Lunch on your own at Union Station. The cost is $63 per person, and the registration deadline is January 21.
Join us on Saturday, March 31, for a James River-Kanawha Canal Cruise in Richmond, Virginia. After picking up our guide in Richmond, we'll take a cruise down a portion of the James River-Kanawha Canal while listening to the strains of the first truly American music on the fiddle. This tour features an overview of Richmond's historical and cultural attractions including visits to the State Capitol, as well as St. John's Church, site of Patrick Henry's "Liberty or Death" speech. We'll stop at Shockoe Slip, a cobblestone restaurant district where you will enjoy lunch on your own. The cost is $86 per person and the registration deadline is February 28.
The Philadelphia Flower Show trip, scheduled for Wednesday, March 7, has been planned especially for seniors. This year's show is an immersion in the dramatic landscapes and tranquil spirit of Hawaii. Be carried away to a floral hula fest, romantic beach wedding, and a rocky garden of the gods. It's the world's largest indoor flower show and covers 33 acres. Your ticket gets you great gardens, floral showcases, and fabulous shopping. Meals on your own. Wear comfortable shoes. The cost is $93 per person. Registration Deadline: February 6.
Seniors, please join us for a National Symphony Orchestra Open Rehearsal, at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall in Washington, D.C. By special arrangement, senior citizen groups throughout the local area have an opportunity to attend an open rehearsal of the National Symphony Orchestra. Lunch and shopping on your own at Union Station. The trip date is Friday, March 23. The cost is $42 per person. Registration Deadline: February 23.
