Politico Obtains Military Records of GOP Candidate Jennifer Ruth-Green, Releases Story of Her Sexual Assault

But while the hacks at Politico were obviously looking for dirt, what they instead found was an instance of Green being sexually assaulted by an Iraqi soldier while she was serving a tour in the Middle-Eastern nation. Yet, instead of hitting pause, recognizing the sensitive nature of such personal information and the harm releasing it could cause, Politico published it anyway.

Green’s opponent must be incredibly desperate to pull a stunt like this. It’s bad enough to steal her military records (there is no legal way they could have been obtained given Green did not consent to their release), but to then treat an instance of sexual assault as if it’s just campaign fodder is disgusting.

According to Green, she actually asked Politico not to print the story, but the reporter refused to heed her pleas. Ask yourself what possible justification could exist to print a woman’s experience with sexual assault, garnered via allegedly stolen documents, without her consent. Was Politico thinking that would somehow make Green look bad? Or were they just desperate to salvage a dud of a story after it became clear the records didn’t show anything but Green being an honorable member of the Air Force?

Whatever the reason, it’s inexcusable, and it’s a damning indictment of the mainstream press, which will apparently do anything to try to prop up Democrats during an election.

Green responded to the situation with a video and by putting out a statement. Here’s what she had to say.

Someone needs to be held accountable. We're seeing way too many "leaks" that are swept under the rug and forgotten.

Just to put it out there, if this were a Dem everyone would be calling her a Smollett. There's almost no possible way this "leak" could have made her look bad. None. But it does manage to highlight how much of a survivor she is and how deplorable the other side is.

Again, not saying this is the case, but it wouldn't be the first time. Or the hundredth.

Just to put it out there, if this was a Dem, it would've taken place at a Marxist Indoctrinated College...NOT in a war Zone... it would involve White MAGA Redneck Supremacists, who would've been in violation of the poor little snowflake's safe space...NOT Iraqi Soldiers, AKA...THE ENEMY... and it would DEFINITELY have the stench of a Lying Assed Smollett hit piece to it, because it would be an article in Rolling Stone, Axios, or Salon...

As it stands, your assertion is missing the important details, just like it would in the Rolling Stone, Axios or Salon article that would run the Smollettesque lie...IF this were a Dem...

Politico's Article Featuring GOP Candidate's Sexual Assault Inches Closer to Legal Disaster

Politico better put their legal team on call because their story about Jennifer Ruth-Green, the Republican candidate in Indiana’s first congressional district, contained information not based on formal FOIA requests. The profile piece isn’t malicious on its face but buried in the story are a couple of paragraphs about Ms. Green’s military record in the United States Air Force, where they include information about her admonishments over sub-par performance. It gets ugly when they have her sexual assault report in the piece.

It drew immediate condemnation from Republicans and Ms. Green, who saw this as an overt attempt to smear the candidate as a disgraced former officer. This congressional race is highly competitive, with Ms. Green hauling in healthy amounts of campaign cash. She will be the first Republican to represent this district in nearly 100 years if elected. To make matters worse, Politico defended the article by saying their information was publicly available and obtained through proper FOIA protocol. That line from the publication’s communications office is facially untrue as sexual assault/rape reports are not publicly available.

Ms. Green suspects this information was obtained illegally—and the Air Force backed up that claim. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) sent a letter to the Air Force demanding what happened here regarding the release of such sensitive information. As you can see, someone is lying here. The Air Force says they have no record of any information on Ms. Green being released through a FOIA request (via Fox News):

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., is raising questions about whether the Air Force broke the law by releasing personnel records for a GOP congressional candidate, which outed her as a survivor of sexual assault.
Politico reported last week that Jennifer-Ruth Green, a GOP candidate for Congress in Indiana, was sexually assaulted during her time in the military. The outlet reported the information as part of a lengthy profile on Green that looked at her performance records while in the Air Force and Indiana National Guard, in which she is a lieutenant colonel.
According to Politico, a person outside the campaign of Rep. Frank Mrvan, D-Ind., who obtained them via public records request, gave the documents to the outlet. But Cotton says it is illegal for the Air Force to release private personnel records like the ones cited by the Politico story, and he is demanding the Air Force explain how the documents became public.

Air Force admits giving GOP candidate's sexual assault details to 'opposition' firm, Republicans say

Indiana Republican Reps. Jim Banks and Larry Bucshon said in a press release obtained by Just the News that on a call Tuesday the Air Force "took full responsibility for improperly releasing" the records of Indiana House GOP candidate and USAF Lt. Col. Jennifer-Ruth Green.

Green earlier this month was the subject of a Politico profile in which writer Adam Wren reported that she had been sexually assaulted while serving in Iraq. Green in response claimed that her Democratic opponent, Rep. Frank Mrvan, "or his supporters" obtained "either illegally or by egregious error," military records describing that assault.

Banks and Bucshon in the press release the Air Force released the records "to an opposition research firm."

"The Air Force improperly affected a competitive House race and must provide transparency before election day," the congressmen said.
