A woman is dead after firing shots at police in Libertytown, Md., according to published report.

It is not know whether the woman was shot by police or whether she shot herself.

Maryland State Police said a handgun was found near the woman after a police emergency response team broke down the door, according to WTOP.com.

This standoff happened at Maryland Route 26/Liberty Road and Maryland Route 75/Green Valley Road, which has been shut down since the incident began

According to Google Maps, Libertytown is just northeast of Frederick.

Authorities said she did not shoot herself.

LIBERTYTOWN, Md. (WUSA) -- Maryland State Police said a Libertytown woman who shot at police was found dead inside her residence this morning.

Police said they were called to the intersection of Maryland Route 26/Liberty Road and Maryland Route 75/Green Valley Road, at 12:45 a.m.

A man and a woman became involved in a domestic dispute, police said. The woman pulled a handgun and the husband fled the residence and called 911.

Police said the women shot at responding officers who returned fire.

Police called the woman using a telephone and they tried using a bullhorn but was unable to make contact.

A police SWAT team shot teargas into the residence before making entry and found the woman deceased. A handgun was found near her body, police said.

Authorities said she did not shoot herself.
