21-month-old girl killed by dogs

I heard it was an 18 month old. I also sadly heard about 6 different versions of this story. This occurred not in my home town but in Pembroke up the road a bit.

So before anyone starts blaming dog breeds or whatever, I'd wait to find out the complete story when more details/facts become available. There seems to be more than just a dog attack to this.

I see that one of the comments says that the child was 18 months old. I wonder if the original article said that she was 18 and then changed it. Right now, I blame the grandmother.

How could anyone NOT blame the grandmother who was in charge of watching the child? I don't care if the child was 18 months, 21 months or 36 months old- it was too young to be allowed the freedom to roam by itself, too young to make decisions about where to go and what to play with! It could have drowned in a pool, been hit by a car, been kidnapped and molested by a pervert, started a fire with granny's lighter and burned to death. Children need supervision. Period.
Grandma failed miserably in that department.

What kind of grandmother would leave any child outside unsupervised! She is the one to blame! Maybe she needed to be euthanized with the dogs :/

Sad, sad case. Why would anyone have 7 pit bulls? It's crazy. Regarding the grandmother, we'll see what the investigation shows. Kids do get out sometimes without there having been negligence

You missed the most important line in the article:
The grandmother and others rushed outside to pull the dogs off the child, however their actions were too late to save her Beatty said.

So it wasn't a child alone with her granny not supervising...again, I've heard too many rumors from people personally vested in this, and I really think that we need to wait until further information becomes available to speculate.

What do you think is going to change? The dogs are suddenly identified as Pomeranian's?

7 pits attacked and killed a baby. Case closed.

I hope all the pit defenders on here never have their child attacked or killed by the blood thirsty beasts.

Why because they're harmless of course. I'm sure they were misidentified or badly treated.

The media just blows this stuff out of proportion don't you know?

i know some cant take the breed out of it.... but try to for one second...

either of you understand pack mentallity???? guess not

I have 5 large dogs... and i had a dog fight last night...

The bloodhound i have is the alpha dog and lashed out at my other male... those two get into it... Im there trying to pull them off each other and trying not to get in the middle of the fight. As soon as the pack heard the fight... a few tried to join in..... as thats what a pack does.

point is.... a pack will work as a team... wolves, dogs....whatever.

I'm trying very hard to respect privacy of people I know and not let it color my reactions to this.

Like let's say my uncle took me hunting for bear as a kid and left me out as bait. :eyebrow: If I had died, who would have been to blame? My parents for letting me go? The bear for eating me? Or my uncle who put me in harm's way?

Stop defending them IC. I've seen "packs" of other breeds around children and people that were friendly as could be.

Something started this massacre and it wasn't just a group of dogs being together. They all lived in that house.

It's a killer breed and no one here or anywhere else can defend it. I'm appalled on behalf of this dead little girl that you'd even try.

I assume you have more information other than an article stating they were "pit bulls"?

And it wasn't a strange person in their yard, either, because they certainly were familiar with the little girl.

So...good question. What could have triggered the first dog, who led the other dogs, to attack her? ICIT? Any ideas?

It could have been 7 of any breed of dogs. I'm not a fan or non-fan of pits, my friend used to have one that thought she was a lap dog....friendliest dog in the world, but would I get one? Probably not. I think the problem started when the child was out ALONE at the ripe young age of ALMOST TWO....TWO! The fact that she was attacked and murdered by dogs (yes, pits) is awful but the tragic story could have easily been that she was hit by a car, kidnapped, etc. Unfortunately nothing's going to change, the little girl lost her life :frown:

Umm I thought what you were trying to say was that the Grandma might not be the one 'at fault' but moreso the one that noticed...right? I mean, if there were "others" there, were they supposed to be watching the little girl?

Oh and I think your stupid Uncle would have been at fault.
