Affordable Home Solar?

Do-it-yourself solar power for your home - CNN.com

Imagine outfitting your house with small, affordable solar panels that plug into a socket and pump power into your electrical system instead of taking it out.

That's the promise of a Seattle, Washington-based start-up that is working to provide renewable energy options -- solar panels and wind turbines -- for homes and small businesses. The panels cost as little as $600 and plug directly into a power outlet.

The company, Clarian Power, aims to be the first to bring a plug-in solar power system to the market, in 2011.

Clarian's president, Chad Maglaque, says the company's product is different from existing micro-inverters, which convert solar panels' power into AC current. Maglaque says his system has built-in circuit protection, doesn't require a dedicated electrical panel and plugs directly into a standard electrical outlet.

Like the idea but for 699 you get 200 watts you can run small applicance or something off that . We looked at solar over the years to do our house would take 25 plus panels to match the average KW usage per month. We were looking at 5KW system that would run everything in the house and feed back the extra to power company. Currently we pay about 10 to 13 cents a Kilowatt from the power company. The system we looked at was going to cost up for 35K to install.

Now if they can get the panels down to .99 or less a KW then I think people would start to jump on the band wagon.

Here is a great site to see real solar systems in action on homes and businesses , just pick a site you can see the size of there system and how much power they are making and see what is being sold back to the power companies

Some sites a pretty small systems and produce enough energy to send back to the grid , now what they are running inside the house means alot they may have nothing running but AC or just fans but its pretty cool site to see solar panels and wind in action
