American Way: Which Republican will move to take down wounded Sarah Palin?
"What was Sarah Palin thinking? The American national obsession with the former Alaska governor has gone into overdrive in recent days after her ill-judged contribution to the sometimes ugly debate over the Tucson massacre.
From her home television studio in Wasilla, Alaska – an addition that came with her new job as a Fox News commentator – Palin delivered a video address that was stage managed to be presidential. In fact, it may have ended her White House ambitions.
There was one American flag next to the fireplace behind her and another on her lapel. There was no hint of the sarcasm or biting wit that usually accompanies her public appearances. She spoke fluently and straight at the camera for nearly eight minutes, appearing to use a teleprompter.
Rather than elevate herself to a higher plane or seek to broaden her appeal, however, she lashed out with an attack on liberal commentators and journalists that delighted her fans, alienated those who occupy the middle ground and left her opponents rubbing their hands with glee."
.....
"But rather than doing things, as she had to when she was governor, she has since limited herself to saying things. Despite having the time and money to do so, she has never developed an area of policy expertise or come up with any original ideas to expound. There remains the sense that she is winging it."
