Off-duty police foil attack on cab driver; two arrested
Off-duty officers nabbed two men suspected of assaulting a cab driver early Saturday on lower Queen Anne, but a third man got away.
The driver later spotted the three men at a business in the area and asked them for his money. The suspects then assaulted the driver, which drew the attention of the off-duty officers working in the area, police said.

Off-Duty Cop Saves the Day at Brooklyn Armed Robbery
An attempted robbery at an East Flatbush auto shop yesterday turned into a wild shootout when two cops intervened. Two robbers pulled out guns and ordered everyone on the floor at Mel's Auto Specialist on Glenwood Road. Little did they know that one of the customers getting his 1998 Lexus checked out was an off-duty NYPD officer. Once their attention was elsewhere, the cop fired off a round, killing one of the robbers as the other fled into an SUV.

You must have A_B stumped and at a loss of intelligent words...wait a minute, he never had any to use...

First he believes you to be an MPD...5 posts all in the same thread - so now you build a new thread...which blows his theory out of the water.

Then you give solid examples from credible sources how off-duty cops everywhere are making a difference in all sorts of emergencies.

It's A_B's move now...let's see if the Floor Manager at Wally World will give him a 5 minute break from greeting people at the door for a rebuttal.

This is becoming amusing.

You guys are so scared now that you're researching articles all over the country trying to make a case with the public for keeping your off-duty loot that you made with a taxpayer's vehicle.

Keep digging.

:

Scared??..LMAO..scared of what..and why? And there is absolutely zero chance that the current policy regarding rendering of off-duty security services will be changed. Zero. Even if you do finish working on your petition before you run out of crayons and hang it up in a men's room somewhere.

Not running scared...providing proof - which is what you nnormally ask for...now that it is given, you dismiss it.

Sorry, but as I already pointed out, it is not a taxpayer's police car. It is the Police Department's police car. Yes, it may have been paid for by taxpayer money - but it is up to the Police Department to use as they see fit. Besides, I am a taxpayer...if it is a "taxpayer's vehicle" as you claim it is...I want my day with the car!!!! Why can't that happen??? Because it is not a "taxpayer's vehicle" and I have no right to drive it.

Glad to see your Manager let you away from the door greetings for 5 minutes.

I guess that when an off duty officer does something wrong they never do it with their official vehicle.

How often do they 'do anything wrong' in any vehicle? Your answer will be specific, including examples and supporting statistics.

I was actually saying that there are many examples of off duty officers doing wrong that can be referenced as well as many of them doing good.
These examples of good, and bad just goes to show they are much like everyone else. Probably because they are people.

But A_B operates off the premise that LEOs do only bad things and are only predisposed to do bad things. I'm frankly surprised he has not started advocating that they turn in their firearms too.

Two great voices for Law enforcement. A state trooper who's stated that any low life maggot can be in the military. And a guy from Pittsburgh who thinks you yanked the Walmart job he wanted from under his feet.
:killingme

Sorry to disappoint you, but I had right of first refusal on the Walmart job. A_B came crying to me that he needed the money to buy crayons so that he could write some petition.

I decided to take the Mickie D job and make A_B's latte for him...gee, hopefully they give me the proper training. :sarcasm:

After all, I would hate for him to throw a tantrum because his latte is made wrong..and for some off-duty cop waiting in line have to arrest him!!! Wouldn't that be precious irony for him???

And Heather and T-Bone talked about them on the radio because they thought things around here are all eff'd up in cop land.

:

Yr absolutely right..if anything rises to the level of a conversation topic by those two, it must be truly momentous in nature.

When is the new policy going to be announced?

Sir, I don't know what thread you read, but I have never called nor would I call any member of our armed services a maggot. You have me confused with someone else. I admire everyone who serves, but that doesn't mean they qualify to do what I do.

and now for the rest of the story.....

You've made a good point and I'm going to expand on it.

I'd like to thank the drunken cop who stopped, and beat up the ATV rider that unlawfully had that four wheeler on the shoulder.

That shining example of law enforcement upheld the law from his own personal vehicle; he didn't need a cop car.

If I remember right, he even did it with his family sitting right in the pickup truck that he was driving.

So you guys are right, and I am completely guilty of not giving credit for all the great things that you do for us while off-duty.

Here's a toast to all of your hard, non-paid, off-duty work ladies and gentlemen!

:buddies:

And if my memory serves me correct, the police showed up, arrested that cop and he was subsequently fired and put in jail

Did he do this while driving a police car? While working an off duty job?

It also means you don't qualify to do what they do.
How qualified are Sheriff's Deputies to do your job?

I believe police officers in the Maryland fall under the Maryland Police Training Commissions standards which are the same for every agency. I don't know if the sheriff's and state police have different hiring standards because I have never applied to the sheriff. I did my time in the military though, so I DO qualify to do what they do. Thanks.

We know. We know.

That's the point where Fritz takes over, and it really goes downhill.

I guess there is no part of the criminal justice system you are satisfied with. The police do their job, its the states attorney's fault. The states attorney prosecutes, it's the judges fault. Why don't you become a cop or a lawyer and fix it.

C'mon Ducks Unlimited,

Spit out the tail about the girl that got splattered in Mechanicsville.

You know that using the same few tales of isolated rare incidents over and over and over will wear them out and destroy your crediblity, don't you?

Oh..wait..no..you obviously do NOT know that. :coffee:
