Unusual sighting

Visualize whirled peas

Saw a couple of brown pelicans flying around the fishing pier this afternoon. Never saw them here before.

Very common if you know where to look...
A huge flock is down by Ridge...
We had to rescue a good number the past few winters because they did not migrate south and got caught with frostbite, starvation, etc.
People feed them, so many do not leave and get caught in the cold.
Hard to catch, easy to manage, expensive to rehabilitate as they eat A LOT of fish.

They split some go to the coast/ Ocean City area and others come up the bay and rivers following the fish.

The fish migrate out, and so should the pelicans.

I used to see them over by the eastern shore fishing nets only. 10 years ago perhaps. Now they are all over.

Bay is getting healthier, more fish migrate in and out and the birds follow the fish!! It is a good thing!!:buddies:
