Mark 7:24 Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre.[g] He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret.

g. Mark 7:24 Many early manuscripts Tyre and Sidon

Let's think back to what Jesus had just been through.
  • He found out that John the Baptist had been beheaded. [Matthew 14:13]
  • Once He heard this He wanted to find a solitary place and wound up feeding 5000 men [Matthew 14:14-21]
  • He planned to meet the disciples on the other shore [Mark 6:45] but wound up rescuing them from the storm [Mark 6:45-52].

When I look back at Mark 7:20-23, my heart goes out to Jesus.

Mark 7:20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

To me it seems that He's really talking about how horrible human beings can be. I feel this lashing out was directly related to what happened to John the Baptist. I really think Jesus was angry. He needed to get away from humans for a while and pull Himself back together.

So He went to Tyre.... a gentile region... to get away from the crowds and be alone.
