”There’s really no question by now that entirely too many school administrators across America are crazy, drooling morons. However, school administrators in Maryland — and some teachers, and a few students — possess a special, possibly bionic blend of stupidity and lunacy.”

What the hell

What the hell

And a lack of common sense.

Three kids in our house and we've used MD schools from elementary through college...lots of good teachers and a good number of bad. Certainly it starts at the top but I refuse to give the school board/administrators/faculty a pass...they are a part of the system.

They may be but there's literally no wiggle room for individual initiative in what's coming down from MSDE for discipline (or really much else).

You may not like that but it's fact.

Changes can be organized, rallied, requested/demanded, funded and eventually made. The possible combined power of the PTOs, PTAs, Teacher's Unions, etc could make a lot happen, there is always room for movement/wiggle room. Just depends how much time, effort, money and risk the parents, teachers and administrators are willing to donate. In my opinion, saying changes can't be made is an excuse, not a fact.

I'm not saying that changes can't be made, just that the regs are there now, in place and being enforced.

And Administrators don't generally want change now, Having hard and fast directives makes their lives easier: a teacher complains about a consequence they just point to the reg, a parent complains-same thing. When there's no range of penalties there's no appeal. Well, there is but that then becomes an all or nothing equation.

My own child was suspended for having a plastic fork in his pocket (from the school's cafeteria) - he mistakenly called it a knife (at 6, he was prone to mixing up his words). Even after it was verified as being a plastic fork he forgot to throw away from lunch.

I really missed a great chance a few weeks (months?) ago. For two issues in a row the Enterprise had front page pix of elementary school principals (women, no men are allowed to be principals anymore) hugging kids on the first day of school. So, where's the discipline? Document, public display violation of the rules. I await their firing.

This was on the front page of the Fox News website this morning.

School official tells students Trayvon Martin case proved it is 'legal to hunt' children | Fox News

An email sent to students by a University of Maryland official that cites the Trayvon Martin shooting as evidence "it is legal to hunt down and kill American children in Florida" is being blasted as the latest evidence of a left-wing bias on campus.

The email, from William Dorland, director of the school's Honors College, starts by welcoming students back to campus, but then quickly veers into politics.

And here is a real shocker!

Dorland dismissed the idea that his emailed quote was indicative of general political bias on campus.

"I don't really want to suggest to you that I'm backing down, but I will tell you that we've had speakers here from AEI, from the CATO Institute -- and [Arizona Sen. John] McCain was invited to be here."

This is pretty funny:

Also in May, Stephanie Mikles, a behavioral specialist with the Harford County Schools who works mainly with special needs children, was indicted for allegedly having “sexual intercourse with a dog.” It was a Labrador retriever.
