Spanish Language Testing Tools Debut on the MD MVA Website

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (April 2, 2014) - The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) announces the release of an online driver’s knowledge test tutorial in Spanish, used as a practice for those obtaining their learner’s permit. The Online Driver Test Tutorial is on the MVA’s website at:
http://www.mva.maryland.gov/drivers/rookie-driver/tutorial/tutorial-intro.html. The new Spanish language tutorial is intended to assist Spanish speakers prepare for the knowledge test for a Maryland learner’s permit and is focused on the knowledge that is critical to the safe operation of a motor vehicle. MVA first introduced an English version of the Online Driver Test Tutorial in 2011.
MVA is also pleased to announce a Spanish language version of the popular knowledge test mobile app is available in the itunes and Android App store. The app was developed at no charge for the MVA by NIC Inc., through the self-funded eGovernment services contract with the State Department of Information Technology (DoIT).
“The new Spanish version of the driver test tutorial will help to increase knowledge of safe and legal driving practices in Maryland,” said MVA Administrator Milton Chaffee. “About half of those who take the knowledge test fail it the first time. Using these new tools will help customers to pass the first time.”
The MVA encourages all applicants for a Maryland learner’s permit to study the Maryland Driver’s Manual, available in English and Spanish, before attempting to take the knowledge test. The online practice test includes 25 questions, the same number in the MVA’s knowledge test. The practice test is offered in an untimed version with a link to the Maryland Driver's Manual and a timed test which is 15 minutes, the length of time every applicant has to pass the test at the MVA.
“It is important for every driver to understand the rules of the road because safety is the MVA’s number one priority,” added Administrator Chaffee.
The MVA warns all applicants that any person offering to assist in obtaining a driver’s license or ID card in exchange for money does not work for the MVA. If you are solicited for money for this service, report the incident by calling the MVA’s Integrity Hotline at 1-800-296-4709. Use extreme caution in working with any third party.
