On Monday, February 23, 2015, at approximately 5:35 p.m., firefighters from Bay District volunteer fire department and members from the Lexington Park volunteer rescue squad responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Great Mills Road in the area of St. Mary’s Lighting.

While firefighters were attempting to locate the vehicle fire they located an adult female suffering from severe burns to her face, hands and arms in the parking lot of the Exxon gas station.

Investigation revealed the injured woman was a passenger that had jumped out of a moving vehicle while on Great Mills Road in the area of F.D.R Boulevard after a propane heater they were using to warm the interior of the vehicle exploded.

The adult female driver continued driving after the explosion while parts of the interior of the vehicle were still on fire and continued down Great Mills Road to Ritz Drive where she stopped at a residence and called for an ambulance for her burn injuries.

Both women were transported by ambulances to Millison Plaza where they were met by medics from Maryland State Police Trooper 7 and then flown to an area burn center with serious injuries.
