This Saturday and Sunday, June 24-25 was be the 2nd annual Mighty Mo/Hot Shoppes reunion, put on by the folks from Antietam Gallery, Sharpsburg, Maryland. In addition to unveiling prints of their new painting, which is the old Hot Shoppes in Wheaton Plaza, there were classic muscle cars, hot rods, and the main event, Mighty Mo's (aka Royal Burgers from Jr. Hot Shoppes), fries, onion rings, and Orange Freezes. It was a blast from a Marriott 60s and 70s past. and the retro food we all remember. I was there Saturday afternoon and was dressed in my Grit finest (Chucks, Banlon, Macks, tube socks and slicked back hair). Check out these pages to see the event and what a 48-year old Grit looks like while chomping down on a messy, gooey-good Mighty Mo, while washing it down with an Orange Freeze. If you missed it, plan to attend the 3rd reunion June next year.

Anyone attend Silver Hill elementary school? A regular site visitor, Frank H., did, and contributed a class photo from Mrs.. Heasley's 1970 3rd grade class. Check it out, and if any of you have any information on this long closed school, I'd love to hear from you, as Internet searches reveal little information. Of course if you have photos that would be great, too.

Speaking of elementary schools, I was very fortunate to have located my 5th grade teacher from Sandymount, Ms. Doyle. Not only that, but I got to speak to her at length (what memories!), and learned that she still lives in the area. That aside, don't forget that Potomac's Class of '76 (my graduating class) will hold their 30-year reunion this September 16th, in Old Town Alexandria.

Remember the numerous drive-in theaters that were in the area, such as the ABC, Super Chief, 301 Waldorf, Hillside, and Corral Hills (I won't mention the Central Avenue drive-in, because we all remember what sort of films they showed there!)? Hard to believe it was only 20 years ago that most of those theaters were still in operation.
