On December 14, 2015, at approximately 8:50 p.m patrol units from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Three Notch Road in the area of Baptist Church Road. Deputies arrived on scene and found a 1994 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck and a 2004 Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle involved in a collision.

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Initial investigation revealed the Chevrolet truck, operated by Joseph Goldsborough, age 31, of Leonardtown, was attempting to make a left turn from northbound Three Notch Road onto Baptist Church Road. Goldsborough failed to yield the right of way to the Suzuki motorcycle, operated by George Rhoads, age 46, of Leonardtown, which was traveling southbound on Three Notch Road. The motorcycle then struck the passenger side of the pickup truck.

Rhoads was transported by ambulance to Suburban Hospital where he remains in critical condition. Goldsborough was not injured in the collision.

Goldsborough was subsequently found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. At this time, both speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or any events leading up to the collision is asked to call Sgt. William Watters #188 at 301-475-4040.
