This just in...

On December 28, 2015 at approximately 1850 hrs, an 18 year old female came to the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack to report an ongoing sexual abuse. During the course of the initial investigation, patrol troopers learned that the female had been sexually abused by a known family member for approximately seven years.

MSP-Criminal Enforcement Division, Central South Investigators and MSP-Forensic Science Lab were contacted and responded to the Leonardtown Barrack to further the investigation. Investigators were briefed on the above facts and screened the investigation with Mr. Richard Fritz, States Attorney for St. Mary's County. After reviewing the investigation with Mr. Fritz, four search and seizure warrants were drafted and executed on several locations within the Drayden area of St. Mary's County.

The search warrants resulted in additional evidence being seized that subsequently led investigators to arresting Christopher Zane Ordiway, 42 of Drayden.

Ordiway was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. There, he was charged with Felony Sex abuse of a Minor. If found guilty, Ordiway, could serve up to 25 years of confinement. Ordiway is currently waiting for a hearing with the District Court Commissioner.

Additional charges are pending a review with the States Attorney for St. Mary's County.

Anyone having additional information pertaining to this investigation and/or crimes is urged to contact Trooper First Class E. Mersman or Corporal William Heath of the Maryland State Police-Criminal Enforcement Division at 410-535-1400, "TIPS" Line at 1-888-210-1450 or 410-257-4925 or msp.centralsouth@maryland.gov.

He had been doing this for 7 years? Why report it now. Not defending him, but you know there are prob many stories of this and family members know of it. They use it as kind of "blackmail material".......

Really? WTF? The girl turned 18 and reported it. While you're not defending him, you validate his position and control over her! The guy is where he belongs having sex with an 11 year old! Why would you even show hints of sympathy?

I would love to show the victim sympathy. Do we know for sure which one is the victim yet?

Why report it now? Because at the time she (or he) felt threatened and maybe after counseling they felt strong enough to go to the authorities. Let's be honest, this is still a small community and word travels. You know the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon, well in St. Mary's County it's probably half that. So yes, the victim was intimidated, both by her attacker and the knowledge that the story would go public. Even today, victims of sexual assault blame themselves. They know people are going to gossip.
