Pedestrian Killed Budds Creek Road Monday a.m.

Fatal Collision 3-14-16

On March 14, 2016 at 6:32 am, Troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack responded to a motor vehicle collision on Maryland Route 234, Budd’s Creek Road, at Maryland Route 236, Thompson Corner Road, Mechanicsville, St. Mary’s County, Maryland. Investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by William K. Halt, Jr., 41, of Mechanicsville, was travelling east on Budd’s Creek Road. A vehicle in front of the Silverado stopped to make a left hand turn from Budd’s Creek Road onto Thompson’s Corner Road. The Silverado attempted to pass the vehicle on the right and subsequently struck a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, who has not been identified at this time, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. The collision is currently under investigation by TFC W. Scarlett. (16-MSP-010186)

UPDATE: The pedestrian has been identified as Joseph Willie Hall, 48, of Waldorf.

Fox 5 is reporting that the driver was an off-duty Chas. Co. Sheriff's officer.

Even then you are not supposed to run over folks walking down the side of the road.

But if they are in a travel lane, then you have some chance of not being culpable. Especially in the dark, if they are wearing dark clothes.
