The book is so much better than that icky disgusting TV show. Curious why the show people decided to put in all that gratuitous violent sex - the book isn't descriptive like that at all. I got like two or three episodes in and was like, ugh, gross, done. I don't understand why so many people enjoy watching what amounts to rape porn.

Anyway, the book is very good and much easier to follow than what I saw of the show. I'm a big fan of history so I love the detailed descriptions of medieval life and customs. I'm the kind of nerd who will read an historical novel and then read scholar works to see if what the book depicts was really the way it was, and the author of GoT really did his homework. By cross-referencing, you really get an appreciation of the work and research that went into the creation of his book. Martin didn't just dash that bad boy off, he immersed himself in another time and culture.

Two thumbs up!
