Looks the new movie theater is getting the attention of the folks at AMC Loews. They're wanting to do a renovation and serve booze.

Austin, TX has a couple of different movie theaters that sell food and alcohol - right in your seat. There's a tray in front of each seat that comes down for a table, then a waiter comes by before the movie to take your order and checks on you throughout. Just like a restaurant, only you're watching a movie.

We saw the new Independence Day at Flix Brewhouse when we were there.

Yeah, I think they need to add a little fuel to the already existing flame of that crappy neighborhood.

I actually think it's a cool idea. I used to like a cinema draft house when I lived in Va Beach.

Yup. It still won't get my business. I would also imagine the price of the beverages would ridiculously high.

Well, you don't go there to drink, you go to watch a movie. Dinner and drinks are just an option. How they do it at Flix and Alamo is you pay to get into the movie, then order drinks and food as you see fit.

But that's a good point about the demographic and how successful a business like this would be in Lexington Park.

Might as well turn into a porn theater at that point.. adding alcohol to that fire would ensure my family would NEVER go there to see a movie..

I (no longer) go to a theater to see a movie. I like to get engrossed in it, and constant interruptions by someone taking orders for food and drink I think is way too distracting.

I'll continue to DVD at home.

When I was stationed in Va Beach, we lived about a block from the Cinema and Draft House. The movies were first rate, the seats were very comfy and the food was good with just beer and wine being served if you wanted it. The seats were higher to enable the waiters/waitresses access to your seat with out interrupting the movie. We loved it.. Prices were compatable with a bar, and cheaper than the Red Lobster across the street. I always said that Lex Park and/or Hollywood needs one of these. You could make a killing, as long as the prices were decent and all workers were schooled in the service of Alcohol, and knew when to stop serving!! Just like bars around here. I vote yes to a Cinema Drafthouse?? BTW in Portugal they interrupt the movie at half time for intermission and everyone goes up to the bar for Coffee, drinks a little food (mini sandwiches etc.) Bathroom breaks and it takes about 15 to 25 minutes, then a bell is rang, and everyone retakes their seats, and movie continues. I always thought this was a "civil" way to watch a movie??

When I was in college we had an old 2nd run theater that wasn't in the best of condition but I still liked it better than the Lexington Park theater, all the time during the movie you would hear a clink of a glass bottle hitting the floor and rolling downhill till something stopped it.

LP City doesn't scare our family so I think this is a great idea - we would go - less than 20 minutes from home! Heck we've driven 3 hours just to go to the Alamo in Winchester for a Saturday night movie and cocktail but I haven't driven the 30 minutes to Hollywood to see a movie in the new cinema - my god it's just an overrated movieplex with soda and popcorn. I need my alcohol!!

LP theater used to do that, or maybe I'm thinking way back to the Park and Plaza theaters. Either way, that used to be done down here. It was a convenient time to use the bathroom and grab some munchies.

Some people fall victim to stereotypes.

Except that it's true. I haven't been to the LP movie house in years because of the thugs who hang out around there, not to mention the thugs who come into the movie to talk and cut up and bother everyone else.

I haven't been there in a couple of years but the times I have gone (mostly take my kids and friends) I've never had problems with any "thugs", etc. If they do this renovation and do it right, I'll give it a try before passing judgment.
