Is it leaking or simply quit heating water? Leaking would require replacement, while not working can be a simple fix.

Do you have gas at the house, or purely electric?

If gas is an option go tankless. Win win win..

I'm not fond of shark-bite. I like true and tested things, such as sweat soldering pipes. I did however use their system on my RV water pipes. I used the flexible PVC material and the rings you crimp with their special clamper.
