Traffic Rant High Speed Motorcycle Chase in Calvert, 106MPH

On August 27, 2016, Calvert County Sheriff's Office's Dfc Gott observed a motorcycle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed southbound on Rt. 4. Dfc. Gott clocked the vehicles speed with his agency issued radar at 106 MPH in the posted 55 mile per hour zone. The motorcycle was splitting traffic, making unsafe lane changes and driving on the center line between vehicles in the area of Rt. 4 and Ball Rd. Dfc. Gott and other units attempted to catch up to the motorcycle to get it stopped. Dfc. Trigg was in the area and located the vehicle still operating recklessly on Rt. 4 near Parran Rd. The motorcycle made a U-turn and began travelling north on Rt. 4 at an extremely high rate of speed. Dfc. Trigg activated his emergency equipment and notified the Control Center that he was engaged in a vehicle pursuit. The motorcycle continued north at over 100 MPH while splitting traffic and passing vehicles.

Sgt. Basham and other units stopped traffic at Rt. 4 and Old Field Lane to prevent the motorcycle from travelling into the congestion of Prince Frederick. As the motorcycle approached the area where traffic was shut down, the operator made an abrupt U-Turn and began travelling south on Rt. 4. The units that had been pursuing the motorcycle were south of the intersection of Old Field Lane and were able to get in front of the motorcycle to get it stopped. Dfc. Trigg and Dfc. Gott attempted to slow the motorcycle by conducting a rolling road block in both lanes of south bound Rt. 4. The motorcycle attempted to pass the marked patrol units by driving into the median strip. When the motorcycle entered the soft grassy median the driver lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle. When the driver was ejected his body struck the trunk of Dfc. Gott's patrol vehicle causing minor damage to the CCSO patrol car. The driver was taken into custody and subsequently transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital to receive medical treatment.

The motorcycle operator was identified as 33 year old Dennis Deonte Green of Mitchellville, MD. Green's privilege to drive in the state of Maryland was suspended and the motorcycle he was operating was unregistered and uninsured. Green was charged with numerous payable traffic violations as well as several must appear violations to include fleeing and eluding and driving on a suspended license

Clearly this guy had no concern for the suspended license. Why would he be released, hoping he'll actually show up to stand trial? I get so tired of hearing about catch-n-release cases.

When I used to have a bike I hit 100 mph all the time. Its not really a big deal.

Agreed, from a safety perspective, given due caution and clear sightlines, not a big deal. But if you are moving around traffic at almost double their speed, then it's a huge deal. You cannot count on Aunt Ethel to not randomly do something to kill you.

Think the fastest I've ever seen as an average is 70ish left lane, 65ish left lane. But even if everyone is going 75, he's pulling +30mph, and that sort of differential is BS.



yep, and ethel pulls out in the right lane to merge into traffic @ 30 mph, never seeing the blur moving at 100+

In my opinion ... This is exactly the scenario that happens in a lot of these M/C accidents. People pulling into traffic expecting it to be going XXmph
And then here comes some jack wagon splitting lanes and cutting back and forth going 100 mph ...bam... Another fatality and they blame it on the car.

That does happen a lot. But not just to 100mph crotch rockets, lots of old guys on Harleys go down that way. And if you enter a 50-55mph roadway at 30 mph, you bear some responsibility, it's called failure to yield. Only exceeded by the amount of people who turn left ahead of bikes. Not saying cars are always at fault, bikers that don't assume that's gonna happen are at fault also.

Also says he was cutting traffic. One of my personal pet peeves as a vehicle occupying the lane is entitled to use the entire width and shouldn't have to be aware that someone else may take their half out of the middle. My other peeve is cyclists that seem to think that since they can cut traffic on the road means they can also cut lines at the gates. I don't care how much your spandex chafes, you should be waiting in line like everyone else you entitled ####s.
