Democrats Score a Hollow And Hypocritical Victory on the Border Wall

Trump had wanted Congress to include $1.4 billion in the spending bill it has to hurry through to keep the government from shutting down for border wall construction. As CNS News points out, that's less money than the Treasury receives in a given four hours.

Nevertheless, Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi pledged to block the entire spending bill if it included any such funds, with Schumer calling it a "poison pill" that will end up "shutting down the government and delivering a severe blow to our economy."

Strangely, Schumer's shutdown threat wasn't met with the usual derision that Democrats and the press heap on Republicans whenever they threaten a government shutdown over a matter of principal.

We seem to recall that it was Schumer himself who took to the floor in 2013 to blast Sen. Ted Cruz for threatening to shut down the government if Congress didn't block ObamaCare from going into effect.
